The Bishop of Darjeeling, Rt. Rev. Eric Benjamin requested the presence of the Salesian Sisters in the Diocese of Darjeeling and was ready to donate three acres of land at New Chumta, for the construction of the Convent, a School and a Dispensary. After much of Darjeeling to open a Mission station at New Chumta. It was the long cherished desire of His Lordship Rt. Rev. Eric Benjamin to have the Salesian Sisters in his diocese and it was fulfilled prayer and consultation, our Superiors accepted the invitation and request of the Bishop on 31st May 1983, when the sisters first came to set up the convent.
